Opportunities to Grow

IMG_3692I’ve been asked to prepare an offering this month. The offering needed to be relevant to my work and could take any format: video, audio, writing, and so on. About 10 days ago, I wrote the text which I intended to use in a video. It was about a memoir I’ve been working on in the last few years. The material came in one big gush which usually is a good sign. To me, it means it comes from deep within and not manufactured by my head.

I didn’t video it straightaway because… my hair wasn’t quite right. So I decided to do it the next day. Except, as time passed, doubts crept in: what if it wasn’t good enough? how was I planning to use this video in the future? Me on a video? Cringe. Maybe I should do an audio version first. Grow incrementally. No-no-no, don’t play small, go for a video! 10 days on and nothing was happening.

Until today. I decided if I want to grow, I need to take risks. What is the worst thing that could happen? Without a proper hairdo, new outfit, make-up or even the written text, I made my first video about the book.

And I loved it!

When life presents you with an opportunity to grow… run with it! If you are waiting for the perfect moment, the right outfit, the nice hair-do, etc. etc. etc., your growth will be slow. Here is the best part… Despite fears and doubts, you may surprise yourself and actually love the process.

  1. I’ve been known to point video cameras at Gulara and would like to claim credit for traumatising her so much that she nearly didn’t do this one! In all seriousness, if you need help or a cameraman for your next attempt, let me know.

    • Jonathan, I laughed out loud and then was grinning for a good half hour afterwards last night when I read your comment on my phone. It’s actually a lot easier to speak into a small camera with a video function perched on a waste bin basket and a box of tissues to get the right height 😀 But you pointing a camera at me was an excellent practice run (particularly because they didn’t use it after we got the video almost right 🙂 ) Hope all is well with you. I’ll be in touch soon.
