M is for Maya Angelou #AtoZchallenge

M.jpgDear Maya Angelou,

For the last few years, your life and your words really inspired me.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

So, I’m getting my stories out of my system, mostly on my computer screen. Some of those stories make their way into my blog. One day, I’ll publish them as a book or two or three….

What I love about you is how unbroken you were despite serious childhood trauma. In your books I found a glimmer of hope: I can be whole despite what had happened. Thank you for inspiring so many women and showing what’s possible in this world if we are willing to show up and take risks. Thank you for being such a phenomenal woman!

P.S. By the way, your poem ‘Phenomenal Woman’ is my all times favourite.

With love and admiration,

Gulara xx

Thank you for reading. This post is a part of the April A to Z Blogging Challenge. My theme is ‘love letters’. And while you are here, let’s connect on Facebook and Twitter too.

  1. Oh thank you for this one! For the last few months I just knew I forgot a person on my ‘persons who inspire me – list’ and now I remember. Shame on me for forgetting her name ;-(

  2. Maya Angelou was a fabulous woman, writer, and philosopher… as she helped people’s mindset. She was a caring individual. She truly was a unique lady, considering all that she had been through in her life time. Wonderful post!

  3. Gulara, Thanks so much for this. I only read her poems during this A-Z challenge. I’ve found quite a few good poems for my son about growing up but not so many for my daughter but loved Phenomenal Woman for myself and it’s one she can grow into.
    I know you’ve read my post but I’ll include a link: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2016/04/16/m-a-letter-to-dr-maya-angelou-atozchallenge/
It is so frustrating that we miss out on so many inspirational people, simply because of where we live. I don’t believe she is known well in Australia but could be wrong.

    • My pleasure! I loved that we’ve written about her on the same day. And it’s never too late to discover such inspirational people. They come as teachers when we need them in our lives.
