Writers’ Block: What’s Your Take on It?

Whether writers’ block exists or not is debatable. Many writers refer to feeling blocked from time to time. One thing I learnt from my personal experience of being a writer is that many writing difficulties get listed under this heading. So I wonder whether you could spare five minutes to help me understand this phenomena better.

Many thanks in advance!

  1. I answered your survey. Heck, I even question whether I am a writer. I feel like I’m running out of steam and inspiration. I guess I need oxygen…. but from where???

I’ll be very curious as to the results of your survey.

    • Thank you, Gwynn, I appreciate your input. The responses so far suggest that many people experience it from time to time. I definitely had periods when I feel stuck. What we do with it is the key, isn’t it. I think you’ve got a supportive writers’ group and love being in nature. Those two can be helpful. But also perhaps writing about what is – as in what’s going in your life, your struggles to write, etc. may be a useful starting point. Lovely to hear from you. You and John are in my thoughts.

    • Thank you so much for reading and sharing your experience here, Evelyne. You really pinpointed it. I agree that writer’s block is often a symptom not the cause of our stuck-ness. And writing for the joy of writing is the best remedy.

  2. I couldn’t take the survey although I wanted to. I went through it and I wish I could but firstly, I’m not a writer, just one wishing to be a writer. 😛 Secondly, I have more problems with time for writing than what to write but I guess it’s because I have varied subjects I am interested in. Then, there’s me allowing myself to be distracted all the time. I’ll wait for some advice on not getting distracted. I admire you a lot and always look out for your opinions, recommendations, advice, etc.

    • Anne, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. To me, you are a writer. You write (the content is irrelevant) and therefore you are a writer – that’s my definition 🙂 I’ll do a post about time and distractions soon. Thank you for suggesting. I think both are interconnected, because if we get really clear on what we are doing and stay focused, then time we spent on distractions becomes available for the project. Easier said than done sometimes. Many thanks for reading and commenting, I really appreciate your input.

      • Thank you so much, Gulara. Thank you for the encouragement. I’m really starting to feel that I’ve been “playing around” and not prioritizing my writing which is what I’ve wanted to do since I was a teenager. Unfortunately, the older generation, especially coming from lower middle class, I had to study what my mother thought would earn me better money. 😀 Thank you. I’m looking forward to your post.
